The Basics

STA-Certified Compost — Produced in San Antonio, Available for Pickup

Southwaste’s compost is the final link in our circular waste management chain — and it all happens right here at our San Antonio processing facility. Organic solids recovered from our liquid waste operations are composted into a nutrient-rich soil amendment that carries the US Composting Council’s Seal of Testing Assurance (STA). That STA certification means every batch is regularly lab-tested for pathogens, heavy metals, stability, and nutrient content — so you know exactly what you are putting on your fields. This is not a byproduct. It is a high-quality, tested, certified product. Available for pickup only at our San Antonio facility in bulk quantities. Farms, nurseries, landscape contractors, municipalities, and erosion control projects — come get it by the truckload. By choosing Southwaste compost, you are supporting a system where waste becomes a resource — right here in Texas.

Got Questions?

Compost FAQ

Common questions about our STA-certified compost, pickup process, and lab testing.

What is a STA certificate and why does it matter?

;
2
The Seal of Testing Assurance (STA) is a certification program from the US Composting Council. It means our compost is regularly tested by independent labs for key quality indicators: pathogens (fecal coliform, salmonella), heavy metals, stability, maturity, pH, soluble salts, nutrient content (NPK), and organic matter. STA certification gives you confidence that you are buying a tested, consistent, high-quality product — not mystery dirt. We post our lab reports publicly. You know exactly what you are putting on your land.

Where is the compost facility in San Antonio?

;
2
Our compost processing operation is located at our San Antonio facility. Compost is available for pickup only — we do not offer delivery at this time. You bring your dump truck, trailer, or container, and we load you up during regular business hours. Contact us for the facility address and to confirm hours before your visit.

What is your compost made from?

;
2
Our compost is produced from organic solids recovered during our liquid waste processing operations — primarily food waste solids, grease trap residuals, and other organic material separated during treatment. The composting process is carefully managed to meet STA quality and safety standards. The finished product is screened, tested, and certified before it ever leaves our facility.

Can I see the lab reports before purchasing?

;
2
Absolutely. Transparency is the whole point of STA certification. Our latest lab sample reports are available on this page — scroll down to the Lab Reports section. You can view pathogen test results, heavy metals analysis, nutrient profiles, stability data, and maturity ratings. We update these regularly as new batches are tested.

What are the pick up hours and minimum order quantities?

;
2
Pickup is available during regular business hours (Monday–Friday, 7 AM–5 PM) at our San Antonio facility. Minimum orders typically start at 5 cubic yards. Full truckloads (50–60 cubic yards) offer the best per-yard pricing. Call ahead to confirm availability, schedule your pickup, and get our facility address. We do not offer bagged retail product or delivery at this time.
